چکیده
Background: To study the effect of amniotomy on the duration of labour and Apgar Score of babies in laboring multigravidae Methods: In this interventional study, 100 women with uncomplicated term pregnancy and spontaneous onset of labour were divided in two groups. Patients were in active labour with Bishop score 5-6 and intact membranes. Fifty women underwent amniotomy (groupA) while fifty women did not have amniotomy (groupB). Duration of labour was noted in hours and categorized as more than 6hrs and less than 6hrs in both groups. Apgar scores of babies were noted at 5 minutes of delivery and categorized as upto 6/10 or more than 6/10 in both groups. Results: Forty patients in group A were delivered with in 6hrs and only 10 patients took more than 6 hrs to deliver. Where as in group B, 11 patients were delivered with in 6hrs and 39 patients delivered after 6hrs. Forty three babies in group A and 45 babies in group B had more than 6/10 Apgar score. Seven newborns in group A and 5 newborns in group B had Apgar Scores upto 6/10. Conclusion: Amniotomy in established onset of labour reduces the duration of labour with no significant effect on neonatal outcome.

Polyethylene Glycol Repairs Damaged Membrane; Biophysical Application of Artificial Planar Bilayer to Mimic Biological Membrane
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a hydrophilic polymer, known to be capable to fuse numerous single cells in vitro, to join the membranes of adjacent neurons and giant invertebrate axons, and to seal damaged neural membranes. The molecular mechanism of the action of PEG is still unknown. It is believed that PEG dehydrates membranes and enables their structural components to resolve and rearrange in...
متن کاملIn vitro evaluation of decontamination effects on mechanical properties of fibrin membrane
Background: Tissue engineering has been investigated as a potential method for healing traumatized tissues. Biomaterials are material devices or implants used to repair or replace native body tissues and organs. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of decontamination methods on biological/mechanical properties and degradation/adhesion test of the platelet‑-rich fibrin (PRF) m...
متن کاملEffect of Supracervical Apposition and Spontaneous Labour on Apoptosis and Matrix Metalloproteinases in Human Fetal Membranes
BACKGROUND Apoptosis and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-9) are capable of hydrolysing components of the extracellular matrix and weakening the fetal membranes which leads to eventual rupture, a key process of human parturition. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of supracervical apposition and spontaneous labour on apoptosis and MMP-9 in human fetal membranes at term. METHODS Fe...
متن کاملCASE REPORT Preterm Spontaneous Uterine Rupture in a Non-labouring Grand Multipara: A Case Report
Background: Uterine rupture can be a catastrophic obstetrical emergency. Many risk factors for uterine rupture have been identified, as well as a wide range of clinical presentations. In this case report, we describe the occurrence of fetal death and uterine rupture in a non-labouring, preterm patient. Case: A 32-year-old woman, gravida 10, para 7, who had three previous lower segment Caesarean...
متن کاملEffects of Progesterone on Latency Period in Patients with Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes during 24-34 Weeks of Pregnancy
Background & Aims: Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) is the leading cause of preterm birth and perinatal mortality and morbidity, and complications. The objective of the present study was to assess the effect of progesterone agents (rectal suppositories and weekly injection of 17- hydroxyprogesterone caproate) on latency period in women with PPROM. Methods: This randomized, double-...
